Hydrophobia

Crowbar Awards 2014 - Gold Photography

I started out with a simple idea in mind, to give myself a simple theme, and then to craft a concept around the chosen idea. I wanted to capture something that has to do with water. I have recently been very fascinated by water, the reflection, and the terrifying depth beneath the surface of the water.

Hydrophobia is a series of images created to represent and symbolise the irrational fear of the unknown that is in the water. The project aims to create and instill fear into the viewers just by looking at the series. I aim to capture a specific fear, where people that swim at swimming pools at night may be dragged down into the water by an unknown figure/form. The project pictures the story of a couple swimming and then taken into the depths by an apparition and left with remains.
